An in-depth look and the four competing routes for passenger and mail service from St. Louis to Texas.
In the early twentieth century routes were the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern, Texas & Pacific, I-GN combination (the Gould Roads), The St. Louis-San Francisco (Frisco), the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (The Katy) and the St. Louis-Southwestern (Cotton Belt).
By the 1940’s the competition was basically down to two routes: the MoPac-T&P combination and the Texas Special Route which combined the Frisco and Katy Routes. The presentation combines lots of available photos from all four roads with some route maps.
