This is the story of a central Texas shortline, The Fredericksburg and Northern, intertwined with its connection to the outside world – the SA&AP/TN&O Kerville Subdivision.

In this clinic we’ll look at the interesting story of getting the railroad to Fredericksburg, TX. Along the way we’ll talk about the railroad tunnel that was required and the rugged terrain that needed 24 bridges to make the 24 miles from Comfort. We’ll touch on the SP’s Kerrville branch and its interchange with the F&N. Finally, we’ll look at how such a small railroad and interchange can work as an interesting layout for operations on a room-sized layout.
