Kelly will present a timeline of the development and improvements of railroad tank cars – from barrels on flat cars to the (almost) explosion-proof monster vessels of today. There will be some attention to prototype design, nomenclature, AAR classification and the use of modern cars.

About the Presenter

 Kelly has been an active HO model railroader since 1988, retired after serving 19 years in the Rail Management group at a large oil company.   His modeling career started in modular railroading and then to the (now dismantled) Midnight and Sometimes Later railroad of Ed Dibble and more recently on the LeeHow Valley railroad of Peter Howell in addition to his own Russell Terminal railroad.  Through the years, he has held various leadership roles with Houston area modeling organizations.  Operations has always been a keen interest having operated on most of the Houston area railroads and several across the south.  He was awarded MMR #689 in July 2021 and has been an advocate of the NMRA AP program since.  Just recently he was elected to the position of Director of the Texas Gulf Division 8.
